Susan G. Komen for the Cure President and Chief Executive Officer
Hala Moddelmog

As president and CEO, Hala Moddelmog’s responsibility is to build, strengthen and solidify Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s reputation as the global leader in the breast cancer movement while driving the organization forward in its promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever. The former Fortune 500 executive joined Komen in September 2006 and considers it a personal gift to have the opportunity to guide the world’s largest and most progressive breast cancer organization.

Moddelmog, a breast cancer survivor, has led Komen in building new alliances with leading cancer organizations in order to reduce duplicated efforts and maximize resources. She assembled Komen’s Scientific Advisory Board, a group of breast cancer thought leaders led by distinguished Dana-Farber Cancer Institute clinician and Harvard educator Eric P. Winer, MD.

Under her leadership, Komen has implemented new grants mechanisms to speed the discovery and delivery of the cures. Komen now pledges to invest $2 billion in the coming decade in strategically important research and community outreach programs.

In 2007, Moddelmog led a delegation of U.S. breast cancer advocates to connect with advocates from 30 other countries at a summit in Budapest, Hungary, where they discussed global issues surrounding the disease. She continues to guide Komen’s global expansion to create sustainable breast cancer outreach and education programs in countries around the globe.

Prior to joining Komen, Moddelmog served as founder and CEO of Catalytic Ventures, a private equity firm that consulted and invested in the food service industry. She was the first woman in corporate America to lead an international brand in 1995 when she was named president of Church’s Chicken, a division of Atlanta-based AFC Enterprises. Moddelmog has served on the boards of Leadership Atlanta, the Atlanta Police Foundation, the B.B. King Museum Foundation and Women Looking Ahead magazine.

With a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgia Southern University, Moddelmog also holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Georgia.

She is the recipient of many awards for her contributions to the quick serve restaurant industry. She has also earned recognition for her civic contributions. In 2003, Moddelmog received the Women of Achievement Award from the YMCA of Greater Atlanta. In 2008, she received a ‘High Heels in High Places’ award from the Trumpet Foundation, Inc., in recognition of her business achievements.
